Insulating Kit Technical Specifications

 

Pikotek Flange Insulation Kits are designed to work in conjunction with our insulating gaskets (Pikotek VCS, PGE and RC) to effect the complete electrical insulation of a flanged assembly. The Insulation Kits consist of one full-length insulating sleeve, two insulating washers and two steel washers for each of the bolts in the flange assembly. The purpose of the insulating sleeves is to electrically separate the bolts from each side of the flange, while the insulating washers provide electrical insulation for each of the nuts attached to the bolts. This method of insulation provides the user with a high-reliability solution to complete the electrical insulation of a flanged joint.

 

Insulating Sleeve Options

1) GRE - STANDARD

GRE (Glass-Reinforced Epoxy) tubing is suitable for continuous exposure to 350° F. This material is an epoxy laminate that offers excellent resistance to crushing, cracking, breaking and thread pinch.

2) Mylar

Spiral wound Mylar is a general-purpose material recommended for bolting applications with flange temperatures below 250° F. This material has generally fair resistance to crushing, cracking, breaking and thread pinch.

3) Nomex

Nomex is used in high temperature situations (i.e. greater than350° F). This material has generally fair resistance to crushing, cracking, breaking and thread pinch.

 

Insulating Washers

1) GRE - STANDARD

1/8" (.125") thick Glass-Reinforced Epoxy washers cut to standard SAE washer dimensions. Compressive strength = 60,000 psi.

 

Steel Washer Options

1) ZPS - STANDARD

1/8" (.125") thick zinc-plated 1050 Steel washers cut to standard SAE washer dimensions.

2) SS

1/8" (.125") thick 316 Stainless Steel washers cut to standard SAE washer dimensions.

3) Teflon Coated

1/8" (.125") thick zinc-plated 1050 Steel washers coated with Teflon cut to standard SAE washer dimensions.
