pikotek flange connections are designed to minimize fugitive emissions in bolted end-connections through the use of a patented dual seal design that "locks" in the media and improves flange sealability when compared to conventional flange gasket technology even in connections with imperfect flange faces. pikotek is the industry leader in the area of critical service flange sealing. The term "Critical Service" means different things to different people. However, to most people, the term means "must work" or "has to work" or "cannot fail." The pikotek PGE ChemPro is designed for this type of service.
The new pikotek PGE ChemPro is a very versatile gasket design. The retainer or body of the gasket can incorporate one of several types of laminated materials which possess excellent mechanical properties. As with any laminated material, there is a potential for low molecular weight fluids and gases to wick through the laminate layers. The design of the pikotek PGE ChemPro eliminates this potential problem. The design of the pikotek PGE ChemPro incorporates offset seal grooves (see diagram above). These offset seal grooves overlap one another thereby breaking each laminate layer. The seal then creates a barrier through which fluid and gas cannot wick. This sealing element can be any elastomeric material as well as sophisticated Spring Energized Teflon® seals. Furthermore, by utilizing pressure energized secondary seals, the PGE ChemPro design will continue to yield a positive seal even in the event of bolt relaxation which can result from thermal/pressure cycling. As a result of this advanced new design, critical service sealing is now achieved economically through superior engineering. Materials used in constructing the composite seal retainer are glass-reinforced polymer resin compounds which exhibit excellent compressive strength combined with good sealing characteristics. These materials do not typically deform under load, and therefore, the gaskets are generally reusable. For increased chemical resistance in highly aggressive media applications, the PGE ChemPro design also incorporates a PTFE/PFA or PEEK inner seal ring which completely seals off all laminate seal retainer material from the media at the I.D. This insures a permanent and impervious seal even with highly aggressive media service conditions. |
